Date of birth: 10th Dec 1821Birth certificate
Location: Newhall, Resolis, Black Isle
Spouse: Flora MacleodMarriage certificate
Date of marriage: 1st July 1842
Location: Urray, Muir of Ord.
Occupation on marriage: Farm Labourer
Age: Not specified
Notes: William was born at Newhall which is north of Rosemarkie on the the
Black Isle. He died at Ordvillage which is presumably in the locality of present-day Muir of Ord. This
map shows the area in 1872.
On marriage, William's address is given as "Balloan" and Flora Macleod's is "Conon Cottage". This suggests they were from the present-day
Marybank area. (Their grandson
John Fraser
would later work and marry just across the
river at Easter Moy). William's death 40 years later in 1882 is recorded by the registrar at
Fairburn which is not far from Marybank. From the
death certificate
it looks like Flora was illiterate. In place of her signature the registrar has written "Flora Fraser her mark" and Flora has put her X
between "her" and "mark" and the registrar has signed as witness to the making of the mark.
